Baltic Neopolis Orchestra cordially invites you all to a musical event opening the new season. Michael Süssmann – Norwegian violinist, director of Grieg in Bergen Festival, will perform solo parts during a concert within the Great Concertmasters series. Tomasz Tomaszewski from Deutsche Oper in Berlin will join him as concertmaster. Compositions by Edvard Grieg, Antonio Vivaldi and Giuseppe Verdi will complete this evening at the grand main hall of TRAFO Trafostacja Sztuki, which is a perfect setting for such exceptional performance.

Michael Süssmann started to play the violin at the age of 5, and made his first public performance two years later as soloist with orchestra in Bergen, Norway. Later, he studied with Ernst Glaser (the concertmaster of Philharmonic Orchestra in Oslo) and Karsten Andersen (the chief conductor at Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra between 1964 and 1985).

In 1972, Süssmann attended the master class at the Royal Conservatoire de Musique in Brussels, where he studied with Andrè Gertler and Leon Ara. He graduated with honours in 1976, and continued studies with Ricardo Odnopossoff at the Zürich Musikhochschule.

In 1977, he became a member of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway. His debut performance in Oslo in 1979 was recieved very enthusiastically and resulted in several scholarships.

In 1980 he became the concert master of Tromsø Symphony Orchestra, and also the director of the string section at Tromsø Music School. In 1997, he entered the position as the Artistic Director of MusicaNord – a foundation promoting classical music and producing over one hundred concert series throughout a year. Süssmann has also founded the Bergen International Chamber Music Festival. He has strongly supported young and talented artists in order to give them the opportunity of working in a professional environment.

Michael Süssmann plays a Michelangelo Bergonzi violin.

Tomasz Tomaszewski is a founder and director of Kammersolisten der Deutschen Oper Berlin orchestra, and leads Salonorchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin. He has been frequently invited to conduct master classes in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Japan and Korea. He is the artistic director of music courses in Głuchołazy and the head of Silesia Music Summer Festival (Śląskie Lato Muzyczne). As of 2013 he also holds the position of Baltic Neopolis Orchestra artistic director.
