We consider writing a visual medium, although our players „read” different information, bringing the sounds out of them. Writing and painting have their own sonic history, and the history of phonography is a story of subsequent formats of audio writing, stemming from the dreams of development of superior form of the writing itself. From the beginning, phonography raised concerns, about „what” exactly is it recording. Every audio technology, from telephone, through gramophone, and radio to magnetic tape reinvigorated the culture of spiritualism and lead to experiment in communication with the dead.
We invite You to the exhibition devoted to different forms of problematic presence of people, persons and artworks in audio recording technologies. Our guide through the traces and footprints of ghosts, revenants and other phantom beings will be Leif Elggren, one of the most important contemporary Swedish artist, who started at the intersection of punk and conceptual art, and fo over 40 years have been moving between experimental music and sound art, performance and book art, and sometimes even between drawing and painting.
The exhibition is part of the program The coffees I will not have, co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, from the Fund for Promotion of Culture, and by the City of Szczecin.
