Seba Kayan is a Viennese DJ, Producer and Artist reshaping the music landscape with her fusion of techno, “oriental” rhythms, electro, and acid. Growing up between two worlds, she draws inspiration from her Austrian upbringing, Kurdish heritage, and deep connection to Vienna’s cultural scene.
Her performances are driven by curiosity and a fearless spirit, moving fluidly through hypnotic techno, gritty textures, and rich melodic layers. Her main goal is to transcend binary visions, creating a harmonious fusion of Western and Eastern cultures. Rather than drawing divisions, she skillfully intertwines these influences to forge a hybrid sound.
She has captivated audiences at festivals and venues such as Donaufestival, Sonic Territories, Wiener Festwochen, Jupiter Disco (New York), Kastel (Istanbul), Grelle Forelle, ICICE Festival (Berlin), Unsafe and Sound Festival, and more. Currently, she also shares her practice as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she teaches the courses “Sound” and “Decolonize Electronic Music,” exploring the intersections of electronic music, cultural heritage and cultural resonance.
Her debut single, “Tencere,” released on Viennese label Belly Dance Service, blends dreamy rave sounds with crunchy darbukas, spicy synths, and sweet “oriental” melodies. The track is accompanied by a powerful music video shot in a Hamam, directed by Nicola von Leffern — a celebration of communal healing spaces for women from the Middle East. Nominated for the Austrian Best Music Video Awards and supported by artists like Acid Arab and Local Suicide, “Tencere” highlights Seba’s ability to bridge past and future, tradition and rave culture.
Seba Kayan’s second release, “The Impossible Halay,” is a bold reimagining of a classic tradition. Teaming up with Rizan Said — the legendary force behind Omar Souleyman’s sound — the track fuses raw, high-energy Kurdish rhythms with pulsing electronics and heavy, hypnotic drums.
