The interdisciplinary exhibition "Souvenir" is both a perverse and humorous proposal which no less frequently tells about the difficult experiences of the past. This proposal remains all the more interesting since it stems from youngest part of our adult population. By experiencing how the world looks through the eyes of twenty somethings, we can learn from their their views on current affairs and past. Souvenirs – objects, elements of memories – become a starting point for artistic activity and the basis to discuss increasingly intimate issues. Seemingly distant topics are told through the universal languages of film, sculpture, and performance art.
The artworks are the product of a recent course on studio sculpture and spatial activities led by Dr. Monika Szpener of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. In addition to receiving a solid educational basis in technology and design, students also receive the possibility of professional artistic development by allowing their sensitivities to give rein to ambitious artistic realizations and designs.
Monika Szpener creates interdisciplinary installations and objects, often within a site-specific contexts. As the organizer of numerous solo and group exhibitions she has participated in various art festivals both within Poland and abroad and is the recipient of the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
