The audio collage of 95% real city recordings, most of which were taken from distant, particularly interesting vantage points, evokes a surreal and transfigured city atmosphere that alternates between ambient sounds and dystopian traffic noise. The surreal feeling is created by the “natural” sound reflections of the urban glass architecture, the countless ventilation and air conditioning systems, the various simultaneous traffic flows from all directions as well as by sound layering, overtone processing, the highlighting of resonances and the filtering out of noisy elements. The result is a 3-dimensional journey – the visitors are welcome to relax: take your time and perceive of this sound installation in this cosy atmosphere created at TRAFO….

Max Joy works as a sound/concept/media and scent artist and has been exploring the phenomenon of sound since September 1979, when the first Sony Walkman with a recording function was released.
The findings from analysing spatial structures and social contexts form the basis for his multi-sensory works with sound, scent, haptics, light, photography and other media. He himself describes his work as ‘spatial staging’, some of which also takes place in public spaces and as performances or walks. He also works in the field of knowledge transfer for various target groups

Max Joy is part of the Berlin-based Sound Art-project space Errant Sound. End of September this year they have released their double vinyl compilation Errant Sounds, which is available at TRAFO too. The record featuring: Mario Asef, Gívan Belá, Roberta Busechian, Andrei Cucu, Nico Daleman, Janine Eisenächer, Alessandra Eramo, Golo Föllmer, Georg Klein, Thom Kubli, Max Joy, Laura Mello, Psychedelic Choir, Jutta Ravenna, Gerriet Krishna Sharma, Anne Wellmer, Steffi Weismann, Georg Werner, Jeremy Woodruff, Zorka Wollny.
