Can absence unleash creative potential? The exhibition raises key issues in the area of transhumanism and the anthropology of the body, posing questions about the limits and possibilities of human communication. The artist tells a story about the senses: those that we may lose in the near future or those that we have not acquired yet. Iga WÄ™gliÅ„ska searches for new ways of feeling, she investigates into the possibility of sensory augmentation – the process of “extending” the capabilities of the human body through the use of external objects and systems. How can objects expand, suppress, or enhance our sensory experience?
WÄ™gliÅ„ska combines static and kinetic objects with video elements, creating utopian and dystopian narratives on embodied cognition. Skin as a substance – membrane and surface actively involved in the perception of objects – is of particular importance to her. The artist reflects on the role of clothing and objects, creating a vision of the future where the boundaries between the body and technology are becoming more and more fluid.
Iga Węglińska is a multidisciplinary designer and artist. She works in the fields of fashion and industrial design, with a focus on new technologies, both in physical and digital environment. Her area of artistic interest is merging the human body with new technologies. She treats clothing as a form of prosthesis that expands the capabilities of the human body.
