Artist Talk

TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art and the Academy of Art in Szczecin invite you to a meeting with Spanish artist Alberto Lomas, whose artistic practice has for years oscillated around the themes of the border, systemic violence and migration caused by climate change.

Alberto Lomas lives and works in Bilbao. His artistic activity has gone through various stages, from managed and self-organized initiatives (mainly in the 1990s) to works that combine a critical approach to technology with different formats – mainly performance and audiovisual installations. His interests gradually focused on social issues, with a clear emphasis on the idea of the border in its broadest sense and the link between climate change and forced migrations. I have had solo exhibitions all over the world: in Tétouan, Seoul, Kurdistan, Austria, etc.

The Artist Talk is part of the ZONA LAB “The Infinite Nature of Borders” residency program, which is part of the CULTURE MOVES EUROPE initiative, funded by the European Commission and implemented by the Goethe-Institut. ZONA LAB provides a space for artists exploring the concept of borders in their various dimensions—geographical, cultural, and conceptual.

During the meeting, the artist will talk about his works – from audiovisual experiments to performative actions with strong political overtones – and how technology, forced migration and climate change have become key elements in his work. He will also talk about his project implemented in Szczecin as part of the ZONA LAB residency, presenting its assumptions and inspirations.
