TRAFO will host Lebanese artist and filmmaker Marwan Hamdan on a three-month creative residency, begining January 2025. He will collaborate with TRAFO on the exhibition featuring his film projects. From February 20, 2025, TRAFO will show: News from Rmeileh (2018), Offside (2015), On Earth As It Is In Heaven (2014), Separation Anxiety (2013), O Swords Take Me (2012). The residency program will also feature Artist Talk in which Marwan Hamdan will present his practice, as well as workshops on experimental film forms and a curatorial tour of the exhibition.
Marwan Hamdan is a lebanese filmmaker and artist. Born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, he graduated with a B.A. degree in Audio Visual C.L.E.T. (Kafa’at), Beirut, Lebanon in 2005. His practice revolves around exploring documents, mainly images and recordings, of Beirut’s political and social modern history, with a special focus on religion, mythology, belief and power systems. In 2012-13, he participated in Ashkal Alwan’s Home Workspace Program, an annual interdisciplinary arts program. Marwan Hamdan has participated in the artist in residence program of De Ateliers-Amsterdam 2013-15. In 2023 he was part of ASK, a three-years development project aiming to strengthen infrastructure and competence within art and design in Västmanland, Sweden.
