After its programme in Germany, ANIMA MUNDI #5 – environmental relationships through Sound Art and cultural exchange presents a live concert (8-channel surround sound) by Max Joy as well as the new double LP Errant Sounds at TRAFO.
Max Joy Traffiction – Live Concert (8-channel surround sound)
The piece slowly moves from a distance towards the fictional city of Moloch-City*, a megacity that seems to devour everything.
The audio collage of 95% real city recordings, most of which were taken from distant, particularly interesting vantage points, evokes a surreal and transfigured city atmosphere that alternates between ambient sounds and dystopian traffic noise. The surreal feeling is created by the “natural” sound reflections of the urban glass architecture, the countless ventilation and air conditioning systems, the various simultaneous traffic flows from all directions as well as by sound layering, overtone processing, the highlighting of resonances and the filtering out of noisy elements.
The result is a dramatic journey…
(* the name has nothing to do with the movie, which is also unknown to me – Max Joy)
The concert is followed by a listening session of the new double vinyl Errant Sounds of the Berlin-based Sound Art-project space Errant Sound.
